Køge Ås

Køge Ridge (Køge Ås) is a very special scenic experience. The hilly woods are made for a tour of the great outdoors, following Køge
River path, a 22 km path along the river.

Køge Ridge was formed by deposited sand and gravel when the ice melted 15,000 years ago. Here are high hills and steep hillsides sloping down towards low lying moors and meadows. The ridge is partially a conservation area.

Idyllic places

To explore the countryside go by bike or walk. The slow pace will enable you to enjoy the lovely Danish scenery and several idyllic places. Such as Gammel Kjøgegaard, a beautiful estate from the 1600s. Grundtvig, a famous
Danish poet, hymn writer and priest, lies buried nearby, in Clara's Cemetery. He was the founder of the Danish folk high school tradition.

Sleeping in the open

Køge River Path (Køge Å stien) runs from the car park on Ølbyvej in Køge to the hills Regnemarks Bakker near Borup. You can set out on foot or by bike.

If you would like to spend the night in the open, there is a nature camp available near Spanager. It has primitive sleeping places, a fire site, water and humus toilet.

Three folders have been published about the Køge River Path with description of the sights along the 22 km route. The folders are available free of charge at the Tourist Office until out of stock.
