Køge is noted for four major exercise cycling races taking place during the summer months. It is possible to participate in ”Sjælland Rundt” (Round Zealand), ”Sjælland på Tværs” (Across Zealand), “Familieruten” (Family Route), and for women only: ”Tøserunden” (Girls Round). More info is available on the organiser’s homepage.
Take a walk in the forest and enjoy the sight of beautiful Gammelkjøgegaard Manor from the 17th century, maybe pausing in Clara's Cemetery by the grave of Grundtvig, the famous Danish hymn writer and priest. To discover the old town of Køge, pick up a small guide book at the tourist office with a walking tour in the center of town - as long as available.
A new cycling guide has appeared, describing eight tours of Køge’s countryside. With both short and long distances, the tours should be manageable for everyone. They cover the areas to the north, the south and the west of Køge, providing ample opportunities to explore the entire region. All tours include descriptions of sights en route. The cycling guide is available for DKK 25 at VisitKøge.
