Churches & Monasteries

The Køge Bay area holds several of the old medieval churches for which Denmark is noted, but you will also find churches designed by modern architects.

St. Nicolai Church in Køge is the largest in the area and also the most interesting in terms of cultural history. The church was commenced about 1300 and was finished in 1794. Second only to Roskilde Cathedral, it is the church in Denmark that includes most tombs beneath the church floor.

If you want to visit the local churches, it is recommended to check opening times in advance.
