OPDAGELSEN (DISCOVERY)

Opdagelsen is a live workshop and hangout on the South Harbour (Søndre Havn).

The urban space called Opdagelsen that you find on the South Harbour includes a covered outdoor kitchen, benches, harbour bees, a stone hill and 85 harbour gardens tended by local citizens, clubs, firms and institutions.

The outdoor kitchen includes four big barbecues, four working stations with water and electricity and a shed with a toilet and basic kitchen utensils. The kitchen is available for several functions – such as children's birthdays, cosy outdoor eating with friends and relatives, cooking school events etc.

Book the kitchen on www.koegekyst.dk/booking. It is possible to have several events going on at the same time. The key for the toilet and kitchen shed can be picked up at Køge Kyst, 39 Havnen, on weekdays between 9am-3pm. You must be over the age of 18 to borrow a key. Please note that the water in the kitchen is turned off during the cold months. There is no charge for hiring the outdoor kitchen for an event.

This urban space has been inspired by ideas from the cooking schools in 2012 and it was developed by the joint efforts of Det Grønne Hus (The Green House), BogL ApS, EVM Landscaping, landskape architect Bettina Lamm, Køge Bugt Project Centre and Køge Kyst.

HARBOUR BEES AT OPDAGELSEN - 9 Søndre Molevej

The harbour bees are accommodated at Opdagelsen. Should you want to join in as a bee keeper, a harbour bee share is available for DKK 200. At regular intervals, shareholders are informed about the project and invited to cooking school activities on the themes of honey and strawberries or honey and beer. All shareholders will receive a glass of freshly extracted coastal honey. The people responsible for the initiative are nature leader Henrik Lerdorf, who is in charge of the cooperative society, Morten Nielsen of Project Centre Køge Bugt, who takes care of the beehives on a daily basis, and Køge Kyst.
