Køge Market Square is brimming with people having a good time in the open air cafés or shopping for fruit and vegetables on a market day. But the Market Square is not the only jolly place.
Køge’s South Harbour is being developed by the company Køge Kyst, whose vision is to change the harbour area into a unique, attractive and sustainable district. Citizens and visitors alike can enjoy the free activities staged there, which is everything from open workshops, lectures and harbour walks to performances, concerts and harbour festivals.
One of the happenings in August is South Harbour Day, an extremely popular event. All kinds of acitivities will take place at the harbour in Køge, and there is no admission. Everything is free! The event takes place on august 25th in 2018. Participation is free.
You can also visit Herring Day at Køge Harbour. Here you can taste the herring, prepared in different ways. Beer from the local brewery, Braunstein, can also be bought. Tickets are available in advance at VisitKøge.
Live jazz music is something that is extremely popular in Køge in summer. Every Saturday morning, the courtyards at the pub Hugos Kælder or at Restaurant Guldfisken on the harbour are filled with music lovers enjoying a couple of beers while listening to traditional jazz.
Market days take place every Wednesday and Saturday throughout the year. The Market Square is a MECCA of fresh fruit and vegetables, cheese, fish, sausages, olives, honey etc. On sale are also plenty of flowers, crafts, jewellery and other attractive items. Bring the entire family to enjoy a cosy market day!
Every summer the local churches invite you to free concerts. This gives you the opportunity to study the beautiful churches while enjoying the good music. For exact times, please check with VisitKøge or direct with the churches.
