The Skovlinge saga

Take the family on a woodland trip and find the Skovlinger

The municipalities of Odsherred, Kalundborg, Slagelse, Sorø, Ringsted and Lejre have joined forces to develop fun literary walks for families with children in six forests in Central and West Zealand.

Deep inside the forests of Central and West Zealand live the Skovlinger, a small, gnome-like people who live in close connection with nature. Since they change appearance with the seasons, just like deciduous trees, they can be quite hard to spot — even for the attentive eye…

This is the premise of The Skovlinge Sagas, written by well-known children’s author Bodil El Jørgensen for the Culture Region of Central and West Zealand, in collaboration with Natureventyr.

Natureventyr in the App

The six fairy tales can be downloaded in the Natureventyr app. And there’s no cheating here — the story only activates once you are standing at the starting point of the route. The tales are narrated by the author, Bodil El Jørgensen, but parents can also choose to read them aloud themselves.

The Skovlinge Sagas can be read and experienced independently of each other, but the hope is that families will venture into other forests in the neighbouring municipalities to explore new places and discover more adventures about the Skovlinger.

Find the Skovlinge Sagas

Download the Natureventyr app.

Under “Explore,” you’ll find a map of all active stories in the app. The green dots mark free stories, and the brown dots are paid stories costing 25 DKK. The Skovlinge Sagas are free for four years. Zoom in on your local area to find the adventure. The story only activates when you are at the starting point.

Listen or read as you follow the route shown on the map in the app. Each chapter activates automatically when you reach it.

You can read more about the Skovlinger in the booklet of the same name, which can be picked up at Ringsted Tourist Information, Nørretorv 45, Ringsted, during opening hours.
